Does God really give his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers?

I have been wanting to write a blog on the quote: “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers” for some time, but didn’t quite know how to go about it. However, it is something that has been playing on my mind, so it’s time I wrote my thoughts on it.

So what does it mean for God to give his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers? This quote illustrates that God specifically chooses people to endure a struggle that is worse than someone else’s because he knows those particular individuals will be able to handle it. So many people live by this quote. They believe that because they are going through a hard time that is deemed worse than others, automatically they must be assigned as Gods strongest soldier.

Nevertheless, I wrote this blog to explain how dangerous this quote is and I’ll tell you why.

The scripture warns us on comparing ourselves to others. It tells us in Galatians 6:4 ‘Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else.’

It reads in Romans 12:3: For by the grace given me. I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

In both scriptures; the Apostle Paul is not saying we must think negatively of ourselves. Instead, he is implying that we should try and come to an understanding of what God is accomplishing through us. ‘What does he want me to get out of this situation?’ ‘What does he need me to understand?’ Everyone has a different calling, a different purpose to achieve. It is not for you to compare, but rather to see the blessings that God has in store for you on the other side of that struggle; to compare it to someone else’s, when we all have a duty from God is perilous. Paul is indicating we must step away from the thoughts that allows us to see ourselves as big, powerful and important. Your struggle and battles are not more important than someone else's struggle and battles and you must never compare your struggles or battles to anyone else's.

Furthermore, everyone has their maximum level on what they can handle. We know this because it states in 1 Corinthians 10:13: There hath no temptation taken hold of you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

What you can handle, another may find it undeniably intolerable, yet this does not make your struggle less than or more important than others.

God has a purpose and a plan for everyone, however in order to fulfil that purpose we have to go through a process, our own unique journey. During the course you will face trials and tribulations, obstacles that attempt to hinder your progress. The trials we face helps us to develop character, to enable our growth in the lord as it tell us in Romans 5:3-5.

God gives each individual a task of their own that will have to be endured so they can become better, so they can move closer towards the person God has called them to be.

Nonetheless, this can only be done with God’s strength. Psalm 37:39 tells us “But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in time of trouble.”  We are too weak on our own. Therefore, it is important we stop saying God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. No one is God’s strongest solider we are all running this race, we are all in this together, lets encourage one another and lift each other up during our difficult times.
